The Absolute Worst Movies Rated by Rotten Tomatoes

Some movies are so awful that they actually kind of work. Since they have become cult classics, viewers often act out certain scenes while watching them in groups and memorize the dialogue and catchphrases. Then again, there are films that make it difficult for viewers and critics to find anything truly admirable about them.

Many people simply think that some movies are pretty bad, whether it be due to bad acting, unclear plots, or simply having too many sequels. The following films have a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes if you’re curious about which ones are at the bottom of people’s lists:

Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

Martin Brody, the series’ protagonist, passed away from a heart attack in Jaws: The Revenge, and his grieving widow is convinced the great white shark is after her family for retaliation. Sean, their son, was killed, and it also pursues her all the way to the Bahamas.

The lowest-grossing movie in the series, according to critics, was written poorly and had production issues, which led to a shoddy final product. I haven’t seen the movie, but from what I’ve heard it’s terrible, according to legendary actor and movie star Michael Caine. I have, however, seen the house that was constructed, and it is fantastic.

Mac And Me (1988)

Mac And Me (1988)

In the movie Mac And Me, an alien family that was accidentally brought back to Earth by a NASA probe collecting samples is described. The youngest creature is separated from the others and later befriends the teenage son who is in a wheelchair.

The film was criticized for not only being a terrible imitation of E.T., but also for going far beyond product placement and into the realm of “feature-length commercials.” Only half the budget was made, making it a box office disaster. Paul Rudd would always show a clip from this film on Conan O’Brien’s talk show rather than the one he was promoting whenever he made an appearance.

Madhouse (1990)

Madhouse (1990)

Mark and Jessie Bannister, two yuppies, leave their demanding jobs to unwind at home in Madhouse. The chaos of overbearing family members arriving for a visit but extending their stays for various reasons pushes them far beyond their comfort zones.

Because it resembles a television sitcom too much, critics gave it a low rating. Reviewers from the audience were somewhat more favorable, praising the chemistry between Kirstie Alley and John Larroquette as Mark and Jessie.

The Master Of Disguise (2002)

The Master Of Disguise (2002)

Dana Carvey’s character, Pistachio Disguisey, is a bit of a screwup who also possesses the family trait energico, which makes every member of his family extraordinary masters of disguise. The first job for Pistachio is to save his parents and get back some stolen artifacts.

While Carvey excels at impressions, critics felt the film lacked heart and was full of juvenile jokes that didn’t really land. The majority of audience reviewers agreed, and the box office take was only marginally better than the budget.

The Apple (1980)

The Apple (1980)

The hippie-style adulterations of Adam and Eve (referred to as Alphie) are the central theme of the science-fiction musical The Apple (called Bibi). The leader of Boogalow International Music, who used deception to defeat the two protagonists in a music competition, is at odds with them.

Alphie tries to save Bibi from a wild lifestyle because she is drawn to it, making some allusions to biblical themes of resistance vs. compliance. At first, both critics and viewers thought it was terrible, but now it’s somewhat of a cult favorite.

Homecoming (2009)

Homecoming (2009)

Shelby (Mischa Barton), her ex-boyfriend Mike (Matt Long), and his new girlfriend Elizabeth are the main characters of this American independent revenge film (Jessica Stroup). Shelby poses as Elizabeth’s friend before hitting her with a car while inebriated.

Shelby takes Elizabeth home and holds her prisoner while attempting to reconcile with Mike out of fear that she will be arrested. Critics objected to the shoddy writing and cliched plot, branding it a parody of the beloved horror film Misery.

Ishtar (1987)

Ishtar (1987)

American adventure films Ishtar was a critical and box office failure. One of the worst movies ever made, according to director Elaine May’s film, was characterized by interpersonal issues during production and a huge budget.

Due to May’s uncredited rewrites for three significant movies—Heaven Can Wait, Reds, and Tootsie for Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty, respectively—these legendary actors ended up in the film. May’s assistance on the other movies left Hoffman and Beatty feeling obliged to her.

Generation Um… (2012)

Generation Um… (2012)

In a haze of sex, drugs, and alcohol, John Wall (Keanu Reeves) searches for self-discovery and the meaning of life while filming a day-in-the-life in New York City with two party girls.

A plot that seemed pointless and didn’t make much sense, according to viewers, left them perplexed. Critics expressed similar frustration, lamenting that despite Reeves’ best efforts, the dull plot could not be made to be as thought-provoking as it had been intended to be.

Gotti (2018)

Gotti (2018)

By assassinating his predecessor, John Gotti joins the Gambino crime family and takes over as mob boss. As a result of the prosecution’s three failed attempts to convict him, he is known as the “Teflon Don.” The fourth only works when a subordinate becomes a state’s witness.

In the American crime biopic, Kelly Preston, the late wife of John Travolta’s character Gotti, plays Gotti’s wife. The critically panned box office dud was described as bland, incoherent, rushed, and nonsensical by critics who praised only the makeup.

Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever (2002)

Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever (2002)

Deadly rivals FBI agent Jonathan Ecks and ex-DIA agent Sever must work together to combat a common threat if they don’t kill each other first. An injectable micro-device that can be used to kill at will was developed by a villain.

The criticisms ranged from calling it a 91-minute trailer for a video game to questioning why viewers chose to stay through the entire film. Reviewers from the audience agreed that the trailer contained all of the action that was worth watching.

Cabin Fever (2016)

Cabin Fever (2016)

Five friends who are close friends finish college and take a weeklong vacation in a secluded cabin in the woods in the movie Cabin Fever. Strange locals they run into attack them in various ways. They soon contract a disease that feeds on human flesh.

Critics concur that this remake of a 2002 version of the movie was a “misfire,” with the gory makeup serving as its lone saving grace. Audiences remarked that this lacked nearly all of the humor from the original, which mixed humor with horror to great effect.

Return To The Blue Lagoon (1991)

Return To The Blue Lagoon (1991)

Back at the Blue Lagoon, A shipwide cholera outbreak leaves a widow, her daughter, and her adopted son stranded on the tropical island from the first movie. When she passes away, the kids are left on their own and start dating and experimenting with their adolescent hormones.

Critics were perplexed as to why a nearly identical sequel was created, let alone released, in the wake of the original film’s unfavorable reviews from every single audience member. The death of the original teen couple from the first movie infuriated critics even more.

The Starving Games (2013)

The Starving Games (2013)

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer created the parody film The Starving Games. It parodies other motion pictures, including The Hunger Games, The Hobbit, Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter, and The Avengers.

It received negative reviews from critics who dismissed it as insufferable and dated, likening it to a high school talent show. Additionally, it was a commercial failure because it only made back $3.8 million of its $4.6 million budget.

The Slugger’s Wife (1985)

The Slugger’s Wife (1985)

When Darryl Palmer sees Debby Huston perform in a nightclub, he falls in love at first sight. He tries to set a record by hitting home runs whenever she is watching from the stands, which necessitates her presence. But she wants to put her career first.

The lack of humor in this film was criticized by critics who thought the story was too serious for its own good. Additionally, they bemoaned the protagonists’ total lack of chemistry, which is a crucial component in the romance genre.

London Fields (2018)

London Fields (2018)

Clairvoyant Nicola Six decides to have affairs with all three men in order to find out which one will kill her on her thirty-first birthday. It is based on the same-named book from 1989.

The film, according to critics, is a disgrace in comparison to the book. The director sued the producers for using his name to promote a film cut he didn’t agree with, causing controversy that was later resolved.
