They first met at school.
Victoria De Angelis (bass) and Thomas “Er Cobra” Raggi (guitar) met in middle school and have been friends ever since. Despite knowing each other’s love of music, they didn’t become close until August 2015, when they were both students at Rome’s J.F. Kennedy Scientific High School. They decided to form a band at that point. They were later joined by Damiano David, a singer, and Ethan Torchio, a drummer. A Facebook ad was used to recruit the latter.
They are Italians with a Danish name.
The four members came up with the moniker Maneskin by accident. The band was looking for a name to enter a local music competition for emerging bands, as Victoria revealed. “However, we had no idea what to call ourselves.” Then there was the thought: because Victoria is half-Danish, the research would focus on a word from that language. Everyone fell in love with the sound and iconicity of “Maneskin” when the bassist said it. They were so enamored with the Nordic country that they decided to visit it a few months later. The word means moonlight in Danish. It was a lucky charm. The band went on to win the competition’s first prize. It was the start of a promising career.

However, some of their stage performances went viral, such as when they covered The Struts’ “Kiss This” while Damiano pole danced in stiletto-heeled boots.
